My family is awesome. Our summer vacations are awesome. This past summer we went on this crazy trip... Happy Lake. Basically it was the definition of cool.
Day one of the trip involved us being flown into Happy Lake via float plane. We strapped our canoes to the sides of the plane, loaded all our gear needed for the two weeks we would be gone, and then hopped in ourselves. Float planes are cool. We landed on Happy Lake, unpacked all our gear, and watched as the plane took of and left. As the sound of the plane disappeared into the distance, and the ripples on the lake from it's take off were starting to fade, the realization that we were literally the only people around for miles and miles sunk in. We were alone. There was nothing there but the mountains, the lake, and the animals, and now us. We got to explore it all. This would be our home for the next two weeks. Camp was set up quickly set up (for rain was looming near) next to the small river that runs into Happy Lake. We soon learned that a couple of beavers would be our next door neighbours!
One new piece of equipment that we acquired for this trip was an electric bear fence. The area around Happy Lake is very sparsely treed, and the trees that are there are definitely to small and short, or to far apart from each other, to string up food from. So we bought an electric fence, cool right? It's pretty nifty actually. Katie always had this strange desire to touch it..just to see what it felt like.
Anyways, our Happy Lake adventure had begun. We had an electric fence for our pantry, a gravity water filter as our tap, a Coleman for our stove, and nature as our home.
